The Oesterreichische Flugzeugfabrik AG (Oeffag) was an armaments company of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy located in Wiener Neustadt , which manufactured various types of reconnaissance, fighter and seaplanes from 1915 to 1918.

history

Since 1909 the Motor-Luftfahrzeug-GmbH was located at the place of the Oeffag . This company was founded in 1909 under the leadership of Camillo Castiglioni as a subsidiary of the Austrian-American rubber company and Austro-Daimler , which also manufacture military open-air balloons and motors for open-air balloons . The engine aircraft GmbH had no production itself, but received in 1909 a major contract to supply aircraft for the Austro-Hungarian army. The Lohner-Werke supplied from 1910 through the motor-aircraft GmbH , the Austro-Hungarian army with that of Igo Etrich designed Etrich dove .

In 1915, the Oesterreichische Flugzeugfabrik AG (Oeffag) was re-established at the location at Wiener Neustädter Flugfeld, which had been used by Motor-Luftfahrzeug-GmbH until then . The Austro-Daimler led by Baron Karl von Škoda and the Austrian Creditanstalt of Commerce and Industry presented the registered capital of 600,000 crowns. Initially, the factory only manufactured aircraft for the Austro-Hungarian Army , and from 1916 also seaplanes for the Austro-Hungarian Navy .

Since aircraft production was banned by the Saint-Germain Treaty , Oeffag manufactured car and bus bodies (bodies) for Austro-Daimler after the First World War .

In 1928 Oeffag merged with Austro-Daimler and the Puch works to form Austro-Daimler-Puchwerke AG . From 1934 these in turn formed the Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG together with the Steyr works , which in the same year ceased the Austro-Daimler car production in Wiener Neustadt and only produced Steyr cars.

From 1935 Wiener Neustädter Flughafenbetriebs GmbH continued to use the former Oeffag real estate. The Wiener Neustädter Flugzeugwerke (WNF) emerged from Flughafenbetriebs GmbH in 1938 .
