from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oferol SA was a Uruguayan automobile manufacturer.

history

The Oferol company was founded in 1996.

When the company was founded, 60% Uruguayan entrepreneurs, 20% Brazilian entrepreneurs and 20% Groupe PSA were involved.

The company acquired the Sevel Uruguay facility in Paso de Carrasco and began production in 1997.

At the beginning, Oferol had licenses for the production of the Peugeot 306 and the Citroën Saxo . Other models were the Citroën ZX and the Citroën Xsara . The parts used came from France, Argentina and Brazil.

Already in the first year (1997) Oferol achieved a share of 31% of the domestic automobile production.

When the PSA Group decided to no longer have vehicles manufactured by Oferol, the company changed its strategy, switched to the construction of armored vehicles and founded the company Bognor for this purpose . Both companies share the production facilities.

In 2002 Oferol also took over the production of Lada brand vehicles . A source says that Bognor is said to have taken over the Oferol plant for Lada production.

Oferol manufactured the RTM Tango tricycle in 2004 or 2005 .

In 2006 or 2007, Oferol signed an agreement with Chery for the production of Chery Socma . Bognor also entered into a business relationship with Chery in 2007 in order to participate as a minority shareholder in the production of armored vehicles in China.

The production of Chery Socma ended in 2015.
