The Oggenrieder Weiher is located on the western outskirts of Irsee in the Bavarian-Swabian district of Ostallgäu , directly on the connecting road to the hamlet and district of Oggenried and on to Baisweil . The pond is 728 meters above sea level and has an area of ​​1.4 hectares . The naturally formed pond on the bank, partly lined with trees and reed beds , which is also home to carp, pikeperch, roach and rudd, is traversed by the Krebsbach, which rises from the Irsee springs and flows into the Wertach .

The pond is used for various leisure activities. In summer, it is mainly bathing water with the demand for a correspondingly developed infrastructure (fee-based parking lot, water watch station , jetties, changing rooms, toilets, kiosk with snack when the weather is nice), although the microbial water quality is especially after rain due to flooding from the surrounding manure-fertilized hay meadows and pastures can be so bad for a short time that an official bathing ban is imposed. On the north bank is naturism tolerated. In winter you can ice skate and swim in the frozen pond . Every year in summer, the so-called lake festival takes place at the Oggenrieder Weiher, organized by the local music association and the fire brigade. The Free Evangelical Community of Kaufbeuren carried out baptisms on the pond .

In the summer of 2013, the Oggenrieder Weiher hit the headlines of national media after an eight-year-old boy severed his Achilles tendon in the shallow water area , which was ultimately diagnosed as a bite injury. An alligator or snapping turtle was assumed to be the cause of the bite , which was given the name "Lotti" solely because of the assumption in the media. As part of the large-scale search for Lotti, the body of water was completely drained, with fish being moved to another body of water. The mayor even offered a bounty of 1000 euros for clues about the animal, which was estimated to be 14 kg and around 40 cm in diameter and which is believed to be able to dig up to two meters deep into the bottom mud.

While emptying the pond, a 20 cm tall crayfish was discovered, which was considered to be the cause, but the search for a turtle remained focused.

Assumption of migrants in 2014

In June 2014 the assumption arose that the turtle might have migrated into a silting pond on the western outskirts of Irsee. A resident had seen a duck disappear there. The community then equipped the small pond with bars and a turtle trap. Unlike the media portrayed, this pond is not in the middle of the village, but on the western edge of the village, and the pond is not the monastery pond.
