Olaf Drümmer

Olaf Drümmer (born August 4, 1959 ) is a German software entrepreneur and non-fiction author. He is considered "worldwide as a recognized specialist for PDF and color management ".

Life

Olaf Drümmer studied Protestant theology in Heidelberg from 1980 to 1982 and psychology from 1982 to 1990 with a focus on educational psychology and software ergonomics . He completed his psychology studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in 1990 with a diploma. He then worked independently from 1991 to 1994 in the field of service and software development for desktop publishing (DTP). In 1995 he founded callas software , which u. a. Developed software extensions for QuarkXPress and Quark Publishing System with a focus on the content of print output processes, creation of print templates, production planning and production tracking. In autumn 1995 he converted his sole proprietorship into a GmbH , since then it has operated under his management as callas software GmbH based in Berlin .

Today callas software GmbH is jointly managed by Olaf Drümmer and Ulrich Frotscher as managing directors and has now specialized in the development of PDF analysis and checking software. The company is u. a. Developer of the preflight functionality in Adobe Acrobat , released in 2003, since version 6. In 2006, Drümmer founded the sister company axaio software gmbh , which is also based in Berlin and which he has been managing as sole managing director ever since. The axaio software develops u. a. Plug-ins for Adobe InDesign / InCopy / Illustrator and XTensions for QuarkXPress.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, Drümmer has dealt intensively with software development for DTP-based prepress production and, since its publication in 1993, in particular with the "PDF" file format for use in prepress. In 1997 he initiated the German-Swiss PDF expert group , which in 1998 published the position paper “PDF in prepress”. Drümmer gave numerous lectures at home and abroad and appeared at many seminars. He published several articles in German-language journals and on web portals such as B. in the (now discontinued) computer magazine MACup or the industry news service Beyond-Print.de . In addition, he published several non-fiction books as an author and partly as a co-author , some of which had multiple editions and some were translated into several other languages.

Drümmer has been an active contributor to the standardization of PDF / X-3 in the ISO since 1999 and has also been involved in the ISO standardization of PDF / A since 2002 . He is a member of several international institutions and associations such as DIN e. V. , European Color Initiative (ECI), Ghent PDF-Workgroup , PDF / A Competence Center , PDF Association and PDF / X-ready . Drümmer is chairman of the ECI (since 2007) and the PDF Association (since 2010), and forwards the BITKOM the working group ECM standards .

Olaf Drümmer lives in Berlin.
