Olaf H. Schumann

Olaf H. Schumann (born November 5, 1938 in Dresden ) is a German Protestant theologian.

Life

From 1966 to 1968 he was a German lecturer at the University of Assiut . From 1970 to 1981 he was a research fellow at the Council of Churches in Indonesia in Jakarta . After receiving his doctorate in 1972 as Dr. theol. In Tübingen he taught from 1981 to 2004 as a university professor for missions, ecumenical and religious studies in Hamburg . From 1989 to 1992 he taught as a visiting professor at the Jakarta Theological University. From 2006 to 2016 he was an unpaid visiting professor at Sabah Theological Seminary in Kota Kinabalu .

His work focuses on contemporary trends in religions, especially in Islam and Buddhism, the religious and cultural history of Southeast and East Asia, the mutual influence of Christianity and other religions, theology of religions and problems of living together in multi-religious societies (interreligious dialogue).
