Olaf Müller (born December 10, 1963 in Varel ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and has been a member of the Thuringian state parliament since 2015 .

education and profession

Müller grew up in Bremen in a family that was influenced by social democracy. After graduating from high school, he refused military service and did his community service in a Protestant parish. After a year of language studies at the University of Málaga , he began studying biology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 1986 . After completing his intermediate diploma , he moved to the Philipps University of Marburg for a year ; In 1992 he graduated from the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg as a qualified biologist. He then worked there briefly as a research assistant; In 1993 he switched to a doctoral position at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , but left the university in 1995 and became an employee of an engineering office in Jena , the Geological Land and Soil Investigation GmbH (GLU); later a Society for Geotechnics, Landscape and Environmental Planning mbH . In 1996 he was promoted to managing director and in 2002 to managing partner of the company. In parallel to his professional activity, he completed further training in business administration (VWA) from 1999 to 2001 at the Administration and Business Academy in Erfurt.

Political career

Müller has been a member of the Greens since he was a student. In the 2013 federal election he ran for the direct mandate in the Gera - Jena - Saale-Holzland district and received 4.7 percent of the first votes. For the state elections in Thuringia in 2014 , he was elected to 8th place on the state list of his party; He also received 9.8 percent of the votes as a direct applicant in the constituency of Jena II . On October 16, 2015, he entered the Thuringian state parliament as a replacement for Anja Siegesmund . There he has been deputy parliamentary group chairman and spokesman for the parliamentary group for budget, finance, economy, science, tourism and petitions since March 2020 .
