Oleg Polunin

Oleg Vladimirovitch Polunin (Олег Владимирович Полунин; November 1914 in Reading , Berkshire , United Kingdom ; † July 1985 in Godalming , Surrey , United Kingdom) was an English botanist .

Polunin received his education from Magdalen College , Oxford . He later taught at the Charterhouse School in Godalming , Surrey for over 30 years . He devoted his time to writing popular identification books for plants in Europe and the Himalayas. His most famous books: "Flowers of Europe", "Flowers of the Mediterranean" and "Trees and Bushes of Europe" have been translated into German and reprinted several times. Polunin made many journeys in search of plants. He was one of the first to use photography for his books and discovered several types of plants. In 1983 he received the HH Bloomer Award (for amateur researchers) from the Linnean Society of London .
