Aleh Wolchak (born August 2, 1967 in Minsk ) is a Belarusian human rights lawyer . In Minsk he headed the counseling center for the population , where he stood up for opposition members and their families or the relatives of those who had disappeared at risk of death.
Life
Aleh Woltschak has been working as a freelance lawyer since 1998. In 1997 he founded the advice center. The center was repeatedly closed and was working temporarily outside the legality . In 1999 Wolchak was arrested. The authorities accused him of “wanton hooliganism ” for taking part in a protest. They tortured Wolchak. Nevertheless, he has set up regional offices outside of Minsk.
In 2003, Aleh Woltschak, President of the NGO Legal Support for Citizens , was the representative of the family of Jury Sacharanka , the former Minister of the Interior, who had disappeared in May 1999.
