Oleksandr Oleksijowytsch Lukjantschenko ( Ukrainian Олександр Олексійович Лук'янченко , * 30th August 1947 in Berdytsch, Rajon Yasynuvata , Donetsk Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian Civil and politicians of the Party of Regions . He was the mayor of Donetsk from 2002 to 2014 .

biography

Oleksandr Lukjantschenko graduated from a school in Avdiivka in 1962 . From 1967 to 1969 he served in the Soviet Army . In 1979 he completed his studies of Civil Engineering at the National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture in Makiivka from. From 1969 to 1992 he worked in the senior management of several construction companies in Donetsk . From 1992 to 1996 he was chairman and deputy chairman of the regional parliament of Donetsk Oblast . On July 18, 1996, he was dismissed from office because of "serious socio-economic deficits in the development of the region". After that, Viktor Yanukovych assigned him the post of deputy director of the Central Road Construction Office in the Donetsk region.

From 1998 to 2002 he was the deputy mayor of the city of Donetsk. In 2002 he was elected mayor of Donetsk and chairman of the Donetsk city council. Since 2003 he has been a member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe . In 2006 and 2010 he was re-elected as mayor. In July 2012 he was awarded the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, fifth class. In May 2013 he supported a sports festival organized by Yekaterina Gubarewa in Donetsk.

Euromaidan and Ukraine crisis 2014

During the Euromaidan events , Lukianchenko said in an interview in December 2013 that "they [the demonstrators] will not achieve anything with their methods" and that there will only be "irreparable consequences" for Ukraine.

In April 2014, during the crisis in Ukraine in 2014 , Lukjantschenko blamed the Kiev government for the protests in the south-east of the country, but also criticized the separatists' actions. In the run-up to the referendum in eastern Ukraine in 2014 , Lukjantschenko stated that “there is no legal basis [for the referendum]” and it is unclear who will count the votes. Lukianchenko fled to Kiev in July 2014 after claiming he had received death threats from those in charge of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic . He also said that he intends to continue his official business from Kiev and return to Donetsk as soon as circumstances permit.
