Olga Michailowna Freudenberg
Olga Freidenberg ( Russian Ольга Михайловна Фрейденберг * March 15 . Jul / 27. March 1890 greg. In Odessa , † 6. July 1955 in Leningrad ) was a Soviet classical philologist . She is also known for exchanging letters with her cousin, the writer Boris Pasternak .
Life
Olga Freudenberg enrolled in Classical Philology in 1917 and received her doctorate in 1924. In 1932 she became a professor at Leningrad University, and in 1935 she became the first woman in the Soviet Union to complete her habilitation. During the Second World War she witnessed the Leningrad blockade . After the war she was repeatedly exposed to state and cultural-political attacks, but also to attacks from her colleagues.
Freudenberg died in Leningrad in July 1955. In 1978 the book Mythos and the Literature of Antiquity was published in Moscow , in which her lectures on ancient literature are summarized.
