Olga Leonardovna Knipper
Olga Knipper-Chekhova Leonardowna of ( Russian Ольга Леонардовна Книппер * 9. jul. / 21st September 1868 greg. In Glasow ; † 22. March 1959 in Moscow ) was a Russian / Soviet actress.
Life
Knipper was one of the 39 original members of the Moscow Art Theater (now the Chekhov Theater), which was founded in 1898 by Konstantin Stanislavski . Knipper was the first to play Arkadina in The Seagull (1898), Mascha in The Three Sisters and Madame Ranewskaja in The Cherry Orchard (1904). She had been married to Anton Pavlovich Chekhov , the author of these pieces, since 1901. Knipper-Chekhova played Ranewskaya again in 1943 in the 300th performance of Der Kirschgarten . The actress Olga Chekhova was her niece, the composer Lev Konstantinowitsch Knipper her nephew. Olga's father Leonard originally came from Alsace , was a Prussian citizen and worked in Russia as a distillery engineer at Kokman (Russian Кокманский винокуренный завод); the mother Anna (nee Salz) was a professor at the Moscow Philharmonic and Drama School.
