Oliver Bäte (born March 1, 1965 in Bensberg ) is a German manager in the insurance industry . He has been CEO of Allianz SE since May 7, 2015 .

Life

After graduating from high school, he completed an apprenticeship as a banker at Westdeutsche Landesbank in Cologne from 1984 to 1988 . From 1988 to 1993 he studied business administration at the University of Cologne and the Stern School of Business at New York University , graduating with a Master of Business Administration . In Cologne he joined the Corps Marcomannia Breslau in Cologne in 1988 . As a result of the merger of the Corps Marcomannia Breslau in Cologne with the Corps Borussia in Tübingen , Bäte also became Tübingen Prussia on January 1, 2019. From 1993 to 2007 Bäte worked forMcKinsey & Company . There he already specialized in the insurance business. Most recently, he was Director and Head of the European Insurance and Asset Management Sector at McKinsey & Company, Germany, since 2003 . Since January 2008 he has been a member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE . There he was Chief Operating Officer until September 2009 and between September 2009 and December 2012 he was responsible for Controlling, Reporting and Risk as Chief Financial Officer. Since 2013 he has been responsible for the insurance business in France , the Benelux countries, Italy , Greece and Turkey as well as the global property insurance department . In January 2015 he moved to the Global Property & Casualty department . On May 7, 2015, he took over the position of CEO of Allianz SE from Michael Diekmann , who left at the age of 60. Bäte is married and has two children. In 2007 he was named “Mister Efficiency” by Institutional Investor Magazine .
