Oliver H. Langeland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oliver Hansen Langeland (born January 30, 1887 in Nordfjordeid , † February 9, 1958 ) was a Norwegian officer in World War II .

Life

He served in the Norwegian Army , from which he left in 1928. He then worked as an office manager in Oslo . During the Second World War he was from 1942 to late summer 1944 as Major Head of District 13 of the Norwegian resistance Milorg, which encompasses Oslo . He had succeeded in making District 13 the strongest part of the resistance movement with 7,000 members.

After the war, Langeland published two books in which he criticized the Norwegian government very harshly. In Dømmer ikke , published in 1948, he accused the prewar and wartime Nygaardsvold government of complicity in the German occupation of Norway in 1940 . On the one hand, he criticized the collaboration by Norwegian authorities and officials, and on the other hand, the post-war crackdown on Norwegian citizens for treason because of their mere membership in the Norwegian fascist party Nasjonal Samling, which was legal at the time of the invasion . In 1949 Forat I ikke Skal dømmes appeared with a similar content .

The Norwegian government took action against the publication and accused Langeland of criminal misconduct. He was acquitted on December 9, 1949 , but at the same time several passages in the publications were objected to and the distribution of the books was stopped. An appeal against this by Langeland failed on January 11, 1952.
