Oliver Reich

Oliver Michael Reich (born January 30, 1968 in Munich ) is a German urologist and professor. He is the chief physician of the urological clinic at the Harlaching Clinic in Munich.

Life

Reich studied human medicine from 1989 to 1995 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the University of Zurich and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). In 1993 he worked as a Research Associate in Harare, Zimbabwe and with Bruno Reichart at the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at LMU Munich. He received his doctorate in 1998 with in vitro investigations on electro-vaporization of the prostate and in 2004 he received his habilitation on experimental and clinical investigations to reduce blood loss in the transurethral therapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia . In 2001 he passed the specialist examination for urology. Between 1996 and 2003, Reich was initially an assistant doctor at the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital , then a research assistant at the Urological Clinic at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and at the Urological Clinic at LMU Munich. In 2003, Reich was appointed senior physician at the urological clinic at LMU Munich. In 2007 he took over the position of Deputy Clinic Director and Senior Consultant at the Urological Clinic and Polyclinic at LMU Munich. In 2010 he became chief physician at the Urological Clinic in Munich-Harlaching.

Clinical-scientific work

Reich's clinical and scientific focus is on the field of prostate diseases (including benign prostatic hyperplasia ), oncology , urolithiasis and andrology . Reich is known for minimally invasive, function-preserving surgical therapy for diseases of the prostate, the urinary bladder and the upper urinary tract (kidneys and ureters). In 2003, Reich was the first surgeon in Germany, but also in other countries such as Russia and Kazakhstan, to pioneer Greenlight laser therapy for the gentle treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Reich's special competence lies in the surgical treatment of prostate diseases. He was involved in the creation of the current guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of benign prostate syndrome (BPS).
