Oliver Schmaering

Oliver Schmaering (born 1968 in East Berlin ) is a German playwright and screenwriter.

Life

Schmaering completed a degree in film and television dramaturgy at the University of Film and Television "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam-Babelsberg with a diploma in 2001. Since 2001 he has been a freelance writer and dramaturge. He also works as a lecturer for dramaturgy, screenplay and film theory, among others for the Media Academy in Berlin. In addition to his script for the feature film Gegen Morgen , which ran in 2012 at the 62nd Berlinale in the series “Perspektive Deutsches Kino”, he also played a small supporting role in it.

In 2016 he received a “Nah dran” grant from the Children's and Youth Theater Center in Frankfurt am Main and the German Literature Fund to develop the libretto Ich, Ikarus for the Theater an der Parkaue Berlin. An Animal Sleeps Inside You was his first play for children. This examination of the microbiome , the fears of it and natural science, prepared in a child-friendly way, was unanimously awarded the Mülheim Children's Play Prize 2018. The Junge Staatstheater Berlin premiered it on November 10, 2017.
