In Paris, Girondo attended the Lycée Louis-le-Grand at the request of his parents and later switched to the Epsom School in London . He then completed his law degree at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and traveled throughout Central Europe during his semester break.

In 1922 he made his successful debut as a writer in Paris; with his debut, a poetry anthology (“twenty poems to read in the tram”), he was still completely in the shadow of Guillaume Apollinaire . In Argentina he wrote regularly for various newspapers and magazines, such as “Proa”, “Prisma” and “ Martín Fierro ”. The first edition of the latter featured his well-known manifesto of surrealism . Through this work he came to Grupo Florida and learned at a party (40th birthday) from Ricardo Güiraldes a . a. know the writer Norah Lange .

Around 1950 Girondo also tried his hand at painting. He also saw himself connected to surrealism with his pictures, but could not achieve any success here. During his lifetime he could not sell or even exhibit a single painting.

In 1964 Girondo was involved in a traffic accident when he was hit by a car while walking. In 1967 he died of the long-term effects of this accident and found his final resting place in the La Recoleta cemetery in his hometown. The writer Enrique Molina endeavored to maintain Girondo's work and therefore also finished the manuscripts that were still unfinished.
