Olivier Joram Hekster

Olivier Hekster (* 1974 ) is a Dutch ancient historian . From 1992 to 1998 he studied history, Roman history and classical archeology at the Universities of Nijmegen, Rome and Nottingham. From 1998 to 2001 Hekster was a PhD student at Brasenose College Oxford and Radboud University Nijmegen . In 2002 he was awarded the dissertation Commodus. PhD from Emperor at the Crossroads .

From 2001 to 2004 Hekster was Lecturer in Ancient History at Wadham College Oxford and Fellow in Ancient History at Merton College Oxford. He has been Full Professor of Ancient History at Radboud University Nijmegen since 2004 .

His research interests include the Roman Empire and Roman ideology.

In 2019 Hekster was elected to the Academia Europaea , in 2020 to the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences .
