Olivier Lancelot

Olivier Lancelot (* around 1970; † January 20 or 21, 2018 ) was a French jazz pianist .

Olivier Lancelot worked in the Paris jazz scene since 1989, a. a. with the Gilbert Leroux Washboard Group, with which the first recordings were made, and 1994 to 1999 in the Paris Washboard formation (with Louis Mazetier and Alain Marquet, among others ). In 1999 he founded the trio Lancelot et ses Chevaliers , with whom he presented an album. He played stride piano and performed in Parisian clubs such as Trois Maillets au Petit Journal-Montparnasse , Le Caveau de la Huchette and Le Duc des Lombards , where he also played with Dan Levinson . Recordings were also made with Swing Feeling & Screamin 'Jay Hawkins (1995), Maxim Saury , Jacky Milliet ( Good Bye Old Friend , 2008), Billy Collins' Swingin' Paris ( The Reet Suite ) and Eric Luter ( Ze French Project , 2015) .

Lancelot also performed at international jazz festivals; In 2008 he performed as a duo with Dan Levinson at the New York jazz club Smalls . In 2013 he played in a trio with Philippe de Preissac and Lionel Grivet . The album A la dérive was created in 2013 as a duo with the singer Elisabeth Keledjian . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists eleven recording sessions between 1995 and 2015 in which Lancelot was involved.

Lancelot died on the third weekend in January 2018 as a result of a traffic accident.
