Olivier Schmitthaeusler
Olivier Schmitthaeusler MEP (born June 26, 1970 in Strasbourg , France ) is a Roman Catholic religious and apostolic vicar of Phnom-Penh .
Life
Olivier Schmitthaeusler entered the Strasbourg seminary in 1989 after graduating from the University of Strasbourg with a degree in natural sciences . From 1991 to 1994 he taught French at the Catholic Sapientia University in Osaka , Japan . In 1996 he completed a master's degree in fundamental theology. In 1997/98 he completed an MAS and received his doctorate. In 1997 he joined the religious order of the Paris Mission (Société des Missions Etrangères de Paris MEP) and was ordained a deacon in 1997. At the Institut Catholique de Paris he studied biblical studies (Bachelor 1998). Olivier Schmitthaeusler was ordained a priest on June 28, 1998 . He learned the Cambodian language from 1998 to 2001 and was a pastor in Kampot from 2002 to 2006. From 2003 to 2005 he taught church history at the seminary in Phnom-Penh. In 2003 he founded a kindergarten and the “St. Francis School Complex Takeo ”; In 2006 he founded the "John Paul II Center for Life", which mainly looks after families with AIDS cases.
Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 24, 2009 titular bishop of Catabum Castra and appointed him apostolic coadjutor vicar of Phnom-Penh in Cambodia . The episcopal ordination on March 20, 2010 was donated to him by Émile Destombes MEP, Vicar Apostolic of Phnom-Penh; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio , Nuncio in Cambodia, and the Strasbourg auxiliary bishop, Christian Kratz . He is also Vicar General in Phnom Penh and Secretary of the Cambodian Bishops' Conference. In 2009 he founded the "Higher Institute of Saint Paul - Computers et Agriculture" in Takeo Province.
On October 1, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. officially the successor of Émile Destombes and thus Apostolic Vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate Phnom-Penh .
