Ololygon littoralis ( synonym : Scinax littoralis ) is a neotropical frog from the subfamily knick-toe tree frogs withinthe tree frog family . The genus Ololygon was established in 2005 for the species of the former Scinax-catarinae - clade built. The species name of the frog refers to the fact that the holotype was found near the coast.

synonym

  • Hyla littoralis Pombal & Gordo, 1991

Duellman & Wiens (1992) placed the species in the genus Scinax .

distribution

The species is known from the area around the two coastal cities Peruíbe , Ubatuba and the island of Bela in the state of São Paulo . Conte et al. (2009) identified Ololygon littoralis for the first time in the Brazilian state of Paraná .

description

Pombal & Gordo (1991) give head-to-body lengths (KRL) of 26.7 to 29.6 mm for males and 38.3 to 39.9 mm for females. This means that the species is small in size compared to other knee-toe tree frogs. The head contributes about a third to the KRL. Two white lines run under each eye. The thighs are darkly striped over a light background, the back is colored brown. Males have a subgular vocal sac.

Photos and drawings of the species can be found in the first description by Pombal & Gordo (1991).

Habitat and Ecology

This species occurs on the edges of primary forests as well as secondary forests and reproduces in temporary waters.

Danger

The IUCN lists Scinax littoralis as “ Least Concern ”, although its range is probably less than 20,000 km² and the population trend is declining. However, it occurs in a relatively non-endangered habitat, which is not under any direct threat and includes two protected areas. In its area , S. littoralis is also a common species; the population is estimated to be sufficiently large. The processors consider it unlikely that stocks will decline quickly enough to justify a higher risk level.
