Geographical location
The Große Berg is located in the eastern part of the Lusatian mountains in Upper Lusatia . Its summit rises about 1.6 km southeast of the village church of Großhennersdorf . The federal road 178 (Großhennersdorf- Oberseifersdorf ) runs past to the west in a north-south direction, while the district road 8631 (Großhennersdorf- Dittelsdorf ) runs north in a north-west-south-east direction . The Großer Berg and the Spitzen Berg form a continuous basalt ceiling. On the southern slope there is an approximately 400 square meter dump made of basalt blocks, which is called the Steinernes Meer . The top of the Great Mountain is forested, the predominant species are mainly mountain elms , beeches , ash trees , norway maples , pedunculate oaks and winter linden trees . The east and south slopes were also afforested with spruce .
The soil flora and shrub layer are mainly characterized by grove bluegrass , blackthorn , single hawthorn , lily of the valley and grove quail wheat . In addition to lichens , finger herbs and the spicy stonecrop can be found on the rocks of the mountain .
Transmission tower
A little south of the summit of the Great Mountain there is a transmission tower with a remote cable measuring point (FkM).
