The Schanzberg is an almost 409 meter high elevation in the Lusatian Bergland in the Saxon Upper Lusatia . It is located about two kilometers northeast of Oberseifersdorf and two kilometers northwest of Wittgendorf . At its summit is a granite column of the Royal Saxon Triangulation carried out between 1862 and 1890 . The inscription on the column reads “Station Schanzberg der Königigl. Saxon triangulation 1865 ” .
Below its crest in the south-east is an abandoned quarry that is completely overgrown with elder , blackberry , raspberry and dog rose bushes . Today there are four wind turbines on the Schanzberg.
