history
In Ubatuba, the first documented peace treaty between the native population and Europeans in South America was signed in 1553 , which, however, was immediately broken by the Portuguese.
Hans Staden , who was in command on the island of Santo Amaro , was captured there on an excursion by the Tupinambá Indians, who were cannibals , and taken to their settlement Ubatuba. There he was soon to be ritually killed and eaten by the Tupinambá on a festival day. Fortunately, he was saved after more than 9 months.
Two Jesuits named Manuel da Nobrega and José de Anchieta founded the settlement Iperoig in 1554 . She was raised to the village of Vila Nova da Exaltação da Santa Cruz do Salvador de Ubatuba on October 28, 1637 .
In 1855 Ubatuba was named a city. The city was a sailing port for a long time .
In 1933 the street Ubatuba - São Luís do Paraitinga , in 1954 the street Caraguatatuba - Ubatuba and 1974 the BR-101 Rio de Janeiro - Santos opened.
