North Korea participated in the IX. 1964 Olympic Winter Games in Austrian Innsbruck with a delegation of 13 athletes in two disciplines in part, including six men and seven women. It was North Korea's first participation in the Winter Olympics. Han Pil-hwa won the only medal for North Korea in the women's speed skating over 3000 meters with silver at these games, and in the medal table the country finally placed 13th.
