course of the race
Julia Taubitz won the first run with a new track record. However, both were able to finish their run with the sled, so that the runs were counted. Ekaterina Katnikova also fell in the first run and retired. Natalie Geisenberger won the second run and was leading at half-time by 0.208 seconds over Anna Berreiter .
Geisenberger was also able to win the third run and set a new track record. The last run brought no changes in the medal ranks. With the second best time in the final run, Geisenberger secured her third Olympic gold in a row in singles and her fifth gold medal in total at the Olympic Games. Berreiter ensured a German double success and won silver in front of Iwanowa.
