The Omatakoberge are two striking, close together almost equally high cone mountains between the cities of Okahandja and Otjiwarongo . They are among the highest mountains in Namibia . The taller of the two is 2286 meters high , the lower is about 150 meters lower and is about two kilometers southeast of the higher one. Another island mountain , the Klein Omatako ( 1783 m ), is located a little more than four kilometers southeast , near the national road B1 .
The Omatakoberge are the highest mountains in the Otjozondjupa region . Most of this mountainous area is privately owned. The Omatako - Rivier of the same name - corresponds here .
"Omatako" means in Otjiherero (and not as some sources indicate in Oshindonga ) as much as " buttocks ".
