Omid Pouryousefi

Omid Pouryousefi (born May 17, 1972 in Kerman , Iran ) is a German musician, entrepreneur, politician and author who now lives in Bochum and works in Wattenscheid .

Born in Iran, Omid Pouryousefi emigrated to Germany at the age of 13 in 1986 in the wake of the turmoil of the Iran-Iraq war with his two brothers, but without his parents.

In Bochum he first attended a secondary school, then switched to a grammar school and successfully completed his Abitur there. He learned to play the piano and singing, formed a band with his younger brother, and performed at weddings and restaurants. After graduating from high school, he studied audio engineering at the SAE Cologne (School of Audio Engineering).

Musician

With the idea of ​​a new concept for a music school, Pouryousefi went into business for himself in 2000 and started a successful cooperation with the Bochum music school, which lasted until 2007. Music on the computer, hip-hop and DJing were the new subjects that the Bochum Music School was one of the first schools in Germany to offer thanks to Pouryousefi's concept.

He also made a name for himself as a DJ and music producer and toured at home and abroad (including Russia, Dubai and Qatar). In 2004, Pouryousefi traveled back to his Iranian birthplace Kerman for the first time in 19 years.

When he founded his band Tapesh in 2012 , he sang songs about freedom that found their way to Iran via the Internet. In 2006 he and his band won the Creole Prize for World Music from NRW.

ZDF, WDR, BBC and Voice of America reported on the successful band, which has now been able to attract new artists such as Shahin Najafi as an open project .

As part of the “Capital of Culture 2010” and in the social hotspot Wattenscheid-Mitte, Pouryousefi started his youth development project “X-Vision Ruhr”, which has won numerous prizes and now supports more than 700 young people free of charge in the fields of dance, music, new media and martial arts .

In late 2011, Pouryousefi published his autobiography entitled "Hope Wins".

With this book and on behalf of LAG MUSIK NRW and the Ministry for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, he toured 60 schools across the country in 2012 and 2013 and set a positive example of successful integration in his readings for schoolchildren Pupils focus on this topic. His path should show that everyone has a chance, as long as they set their own goals and tackle them.

Omid Pouryousefi is currently working on his second book entitled "Integration - Curse or Blessing?".

International politics

Omid Pouryousefi is repeatedly involved in music projects critical of the regime, which he distributes in Iran via the Internet.

At the end of 2008, the largest Iranian newspaper, Keyhan , wrote that Pouryousefi and his music would spoil Islamic revolutionary values ​​and classified him as an enemy of the state. According to Iranian law, this is equivalent to the death penalty.

In 2013 Pouryousefi ran for the Iranian National Council.

Local politics

Omid Pouryousefi was a member of the SPD until 2015 . From 2010 to 2014 he was a Resident Member of the Committee for Migration and Integration of the City of Bochum .

On April 19, 2015, Pouryousefi declared that he wanted to run as an independent candidate in the mayoral elections 2015 in Bochum and Wattenscheid. To do this, he resigned from the SPD. In the election campaign he wants to stand up for the issues of administration efficiency, transparency and citizen participation. Citizens' interests and not party interests should be the focus of politics. Pouryousefi is supported in the election campaign by the FDP Bochum and the independent voter community Die Stadtgestalter .
