The Ommersheimer Weiher is a reservoir in the southeast of Saarland , the dam of which was put into operation in 1971 . The approximately one hectare pond with its small island is home to numerous, sometimes rare, aquatic animals.

history

In November 1961, at a water show with the district administration of the then St. Ingbert district, the idea of using the swampy meadows in the Im Gangelbrunnen district by creating a reservoir came up. After positive statements from the approval authorities, the municipal council of the then still independent municipality of Ommersheim decided in April 1962 to create a reservoir. The properties were merged by means of a land consolidation , and by 1974 the community was able to acquire 3.14 hectares of land. In 1970 the so-called “Mönchbauwerk” was built and the dam was raised. After that, the facility was expanded with the participation of the people of Ommersheim. In 1971 the fish was used and pedestrian walkways and a shelter were built. An annual autumn fishing has been carried out since 1973. In 1976 the car park on the L 107 was built, in 1979 the paths, the playground and the mini golf course and in 1981 the ball sports facilities; Since 1986 there has been a fountain on the pond and since 2005 there have been several motorhome parking spaces on the L 107 , which since 2007 also have a supply facility for water and electricity.

Freetime activities

There are several recreational and leisure facilities around the Ommersheimer Weiher. Here you can go for a walk, play football, badminton, table tennis, boules , boccia or mini golf , and for Kneipp fans there is a water treading pool and an arm bath at the historic Alpros fountain . There are also several benches, lawns, restaurants and a playground near the Ommersheimer Weiher.

Alprosbrunnen / Gangelbrunnen

The heart of the park around the Ommersheimer Weiher is the Alprosbrunnen, which feeds the Kneipp facility and, in addition to the Saarbach, also the pond with fresh water. The well was set up in 1927 by the hiking club Alpenrose Ommersheim , which had been founded five years earlier , in order to take the existing spring. The groundbreaking ceremony for the well construction took place in the winter of 1926/1927, and the well was inaugurated in June 1927. Before the pond was built, the spring was redrawn in 1969 and the well chamber was also renewed. The Kneipp treading pool and arm bath were also created during this time.

Gangelbrunnen Funding Association

After the pond was built, in 1973 the helpers formed the Gangelbrunnen local recreation community. In recognition of the special commitment of the association members, the association was contractually granted a say in the design of the facility in 1974.
