chronology
- On Yer Toez Blaggamuffin (1991)

On Yer Toez is the debut album by the English Oi! - and punk band Blaggers ITA , which was called "The Blaggers" back then. It remained their only publication under the original name.

Publications

The album was released by Oi! About a year after the band was founded. Records (catalog no. OIR 014), the label of The Oppressed Frontman Roddy Moreno. The cover showed a black and white band photo in a white frame against a black background, as well as the band and album title and the logo of the record company. Shortly after making their debut, The Blaggers opened up for Angelic Upstarts .

In 1997 Mad Butcher Records released a new edition of the album as LP (MBR 018). In the same year, the first publication in the “Mad Butcher Classics” series (MBC 001) was also a version with a modified cover, which is available on CD. At the same time, MBR and Bass Riot Records (Basr 008) released an MC version that also includes the new cover. The title lists of the new releases differ from the original. The booklet of the CD edition also contains a declaration of war on the Bleach Records label.

Style and texts

The songs on the album are almost entirely recorded in fast or mid-tempo. While Blagger's ITA incorporated elements from hip-hop and dance music into later releases , the music on the first album is still predominantly the Oi! or punk rock. The individual pieces are simply structured and riff-heavy, solos are the exception.

In the lyrics, the band primarily deals with social issues such as violence ( Weekend Warrios ), prisoner rights ( Jail House Doors ), the Northern Ireland conflict ( Ireland ) and right-wing radicalism ( House Of The Fascist Scum ), in addition to their own self-portrayal . The slow held Bronco Bullfrog is based on the film of the same name from 1970, the text expresses nostalgic memories of a loved one.

Skateboard Bob and House Of The Fascist Scum are cover versions of Blitzkrieg Bop and The House of the Rising Sun , respectively, but each with a clearly modified text.

more publishments

An alternate version of Young Blaggers appeared in 1993 on the CD version of the album United Colors of Blaggers ITA .

The House of the Rising Sun was part of the 2009 compilation United Skins published by Mad Butcher Records . Blaggers ITA were the only band from the English-speaking area represented on it.

reception

Steven Wells rated the album in the NME with 7 out of 10 points. In terms of sound, it was classified as “pure anti-fascist Oi Music”.

On rateyourmusic.com the album including the new releases is rated with around 3.4 out of 5 points, spread over 8 reviews.

The rating on discogs.com , based on 31 reviews for all versions, is 4.06 out of 5 points.

In a band biography on dementlieu.com the album is classified as "mediocre".

During an interview in 1991 Matty Blag described the early songs as very politically oriented, which increased over time, but in his opinion the political was too much “stuffed into the throat” of the listeners in the early phase (“ ram politics down peoples throats to much ”).
