Onalaska is a city in Polk County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located on Farm Road 356 in east Texas, 150 km north of Houston and has a total area of 5.6 km², of which 0.1 km² is water.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 1,174 people in 538 households and 350 families lived here. The population density was 211.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 91.23% White, 6.56% African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 0.43% other ethnic groups. About 1.11% were mixed race and 2.39% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 538 households, 20.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.2% of these were married couples living together. 9.5% were single mothers and 34.8% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were single households and there were people living in 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.66.
18.6% of the population were under 18 years old, 5.5% 18 to 24, 22.0% 25 to 44, 29.1% 45 to 64, and 24.8% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 93.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 90.1 men.
