In 1972 the One Astor Plaza was completed after almost four years of construction and replaced the Hotel Astor , which opened in 1904 . The building has a height of 227 meters, making it currently the 48th tallest building in New York . It has 54 floors with a usable area of around 179,000 square meters. In the immediate vicinity of One Astor Plaza is the Bank of America Tower , which at 366 meters clearly towers over the building.
