One Step Beyond is an Australian experimental death metal band from Adelaide that was formed in 1997.

history

After the band was founded in 1997, the debut album Life Imitates Art was released in 2002 . In 2005, the second album was completed and the group started looking for a label that could sell it. However, the search was interrupted by the death of guitarist Jeremy Lammas, who was killed in a traffic accident on July 12, 2006. The album was finally released in mid-2007 under the name Beyond Good and Evil . It was distributed internationally by the Italian label My Kingdom Music . Guitarist Rufus, who joined the band in 2006 as a guitarist, was replaced in 2007 by Pahl Hodgson. In 2009 the debut album was re-released on the Australian label Grindhead Records . The next album The Music of Chance followed in 2014 via Metal Scrap Records .

style

According to Brian Fischer-Giffin in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal , the group processed elements from Death Metal and Grindcore in a unique way . The basis is a sound that resembles that of Blood Duster , which incorporates elements from Ska , Punk , Jazz , Hip-Hop and Dub Reggae , so that the band occasionally sounds like Primus or the Red Hot Chili Peppers . Victor Varas from zombieritualzine.wordpress.com described the music of The Music of Chance as experimental death metal. The group mixes Extreme Metal with fast riffs and Scandinavian Black Metal vocals. In addition to Death Metal, the music also has Thrash Metal , Doom Metal , Reggae and Salsa influences, which gives the impression that the members are big fans of Mr. Bungle .
