Blood Duster is an Australian grindcore , death metal and rock band from Melbourne that was formed in 1991.

history

The band was formed in August 1991 and initially consisted of drummer Andrew "Brick" Brown, bassist Jason "PC" Fuller and guitarist and singer Anthony Barry. A first demo was recorded in December and published in January 1992 under the name Menstrual Soup . In total, over 500 copies of the demo settled. Then Leigh Cornish can be heard as a guest singer in the last song Swine on Shit . Shortly after the release, Barry left the band and was replaced by guitarist Troy Darlington and singer Callum Wilson. Before the group could perform live, the latter left the cast, after which Darlington also took over the vocals. In 1993 the line-up changed again: Brown had left Blod Duster due to a knee injury and Darlington was no longer active there. Singer Tony Forde, drummer Shane Rout and guitarist Brad Johnston joined as replacements . In the middle of the year the EP Fisting the Dead was released by Dr. Jim's Records . The sound carrier contains 25 songs and was originally supposed to appear on Wild Rags Records as a split release with Impetigo and Meat Shits . However, since the former band had split up before that, this idea was discarded. The group had meanwhile started holding isolated concerts, including a national tour with Brutal Truth . After Rout left the band to join the group Lord Lucifer and Johnston left the band, the EP Yeest was released in Australia in mid-1995 . It was given a shocking cover art, while the title was deliberately copied from a local band's album. Then Matt Rizzo and Fin Alman aka Fin McCarthy can be heard as the new drummer and the new guitarist respectively. Thereupon Relapse Records became aware of the group and released Fisting the Dead and Yeest as a compilation outside of Australia.

After two years of live activity, the debut album Str8outtanorthcote followed in late 1997 . Euan Heriot is included as the new drummer. In 1998 Brutal Truth went on another tour of Australia. A live album was also recorded, which was originally due to be released in 2000. However, this idea was rejected because of the studio album that was released a little later. In June 1999 Heriot left the group, was replaced by Rout, who was back in the band for only a few rehearsals before Matt Rizzo took over this position again. A short time later, Matt "Lowpantz" Collins replaced guitarist Alman. In September 2000, the second album Cunt was released. Shortly after the release, Josh "JJ LaWhore" Nixon joined the band as the second guitarist. The album includes a cover version of Impetigo's Dis-Organ-Ized , among other things . The recordings had taken place in the same studio in which Fisting the Dead and Yeest had been recorded. A music video was created for the song Pornstore Stiffi , which was also broadcast on Channel V in Australia. The group was in information broadcast Today Tonight to see. After an incident with the pop band Scandal'us , singer Tony Ford had to testify in court in 2001. The police became aware of his brass knuckles. A court case was then ordered, but a letter of apology resulted in a warning. During this time the group continued to hold concerts. A US tour was planned for August 2001, but it did not materialize, instead the group worked on new songs. Towards the end of the year they went on a national tour with The Dwarves . In 2002, the band was to be seen at various mini-festivals of High Voltage Records , the label released the EP EFF Ein Lied hiervon , 66.6fm on Your Radio Dial in the same year was used for a commercial for copy paper. In March 2003, national appearances followed with The Haunted . The next self-titled album, released that same year, featured Jay Dunne of 28 Days , the band Spazzys and Dave Evans as guest vocalists . During the recording, Nixon had left the band, but can still be heard partially on the album. Scott Pritchard had come to replace him. The songs Drink, Fight, Fuck , I Wanna Do It With a Donna and Sixsixsixteen were released as singles. The first song was in the Australian radio station Triple J played. The single Sixsixsixteen contained a photo that was supposed to imitate the cover of WASP's debut album . On the following tours, the band performed on the Big Day Out in January, among others . The group held a headlining tour of Australia off to the single Sixsixsixteen to apply, with the last ten concerts to be canceled in June had since Ford on a concert at the stage diving in Geelong on collarbone had violated and sewn to the head had. In January 2005 the group could be seen at the Metal for the Brain in Canberra and then went on tour with The Dwarves and Pungent Stench . In July and August they went on a tour that included 41 concerts in Great Britain , Germany , France , Belgium , Italy , the Czech Republic , Poland , the Netherlands , Austria , Slovenia and Japan . After that, the group played in Australia and New Zealand . Towards the end of the year, Fisting the Dead was re-released with bonus songs and extensive liner notes , and Menstrual Soup also saw a re-release in limited numbers on Bizarre Leporous Productions . The group also released the DVD The Shape of Death to Come . It consists of 22 songs that were filmed in various Australian cities between 1996 and 2004. After performing in Australia, Blood Duster took a long break of about a year. In 2006 the deluxe record version of the self-titled album was released on the German label Apatheti View Records .

After the break, they went on tour through Australia together with Danzig . Shortly thereafter, Straight Up Records released the bootleg live album Kill Kill Kill , which was recorded on the tour with Brutal Truth. At the end of 2006 the album Lyden nå was recorded, which consists of two CDs and a third part, which could be downloaded from the band's website. The access code required for this was in the album. The sound carrier was released in April 2007 on the Czech label Obscene Productions . The band had previously performed with Slayer . The album includes guest contributions from Darryl Cotton and various members of Earth , Pod People and Fuller's band Dern Rudlidge. Some of the members have pseudonyms on them . Forde is referred to as "Tone Bone Silver", Collins as "M-Lo" and guitarist Scott Pritchard as "Belt Thrower". In September Rizzo left the band and was replaced by David Haley from Psycroptic . Then it went on a national tour with Napalm Death . At the end of 2007 they went on tour through Australia with Mastodon and Slayer. In March 2008, a split release with Venomous Concept appeared on Missing Link Records . Blood Duster contributed three exclusive songs for this. In April 2008, Fisting the Dead , Str8outtanorthcote and Cunt were re-released with a different cover design and bonus songs. In May the band played at the Maryland Death Fest . In 2012 the next album Kvlt followed in self- release .

style

The band biography on relapse.com lists Napalm Death, Terrorizer , Carcass , Repulsion , Deep Purple and Black Sabbath as influences. According to William York from Allmusic , the group distinguishes itself primarily through their humor, which he feels is tasteless. The group plays offensive grindcore that is mixed with elements from Southern Rock or Stoner Rock . Fisting the Dead was heavily influenced by Earache Records bands from the late 1980s such as Carcass and Napalm Death. Str8outtanorthcote is less pure Grindcore and instead groove- oriented, the group describes their music as "100% Grinding Death Rock". According to rockdetector.com , the group mixes grindcore with traditional 1970s southern rock with rockabilly rhythms and repulsive humor. As an example of the latter, it was given that the group appeared naked several times. According to Brian Fischer-Giffin in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal , the band has evolved from pure grindcore to a groove-oriented mixture of grindcore and death metal. On Str8outtanorthcote you have the deathrock expanded conditions influencing the fate that you have to Yeest have introduced. They are also experimenting with acoustic, country-like songs as well as with ambient sounds. On Cunt , they leaned more closely on the classic grindcore of the early days. The three parts of Lyden nå would each be dedicated to Death Metal, Grindcore and Drone Doom .

In his review of Cunt , Matthias Weckmann from Metal Hammer assigned the band to the Porngrind . They often process excerpts from porn films as song intros, with the songs only having a length of about 80 seconds. These would all be played quickly, which occasionally reminded him of Slipknot . The singing consisted of grunts throughout . Two years later Anzo Sadoni reviewed on the self-titled album, a mix of striking AC / DC - riffs , death metal and grindcore style of Hateplow and 'n' rock and roll as it Motörhead play. In contrast to its predecessor, the songs are now longer and the proportion of rock has increased. In a later issue, Sadoni reviewed the DVD The Shape of Death to Come and described the music as "Grind'n'Roll with latent pornography and nasty humor". In Extreme Metal II, Joel McIver described the band's music as a mixture of grindcore, death metal and fast-paced thrash metal . Over time, however, the group slowed down a little. The length of the songs is comparable to that of SOD . With the album Cunt , the group Anal Cunt has dedicated itself to comedy metal. In the first edition of the book he also wrote that Fisting the Dead is about cannibalism and necrophilia .
