Onmeda is an online health portal that offers medical laypeople information on medical and health topics.

history

Scientists from the Charité in Berlin and the Berlin Max Planck Institute founded the Medicine-Worldwide health portal in 1997. The Cologne-based Onvista acquired the website in March 2004 from the operator Med-World-AG. This website was redesigned in June 2005 at www.onmeda.de. OnVista sold Onmeda to gofeminin.de in June 2008. The parent company of gofeminin.de is the French company aufeminin.com, which was majority owned by Axel Springer AG . At the end of 2017, Springer sold its shares in the French media group TF1 . Gofeminin.de GmbH is a member of the Health Information System Action Forum ( afgis eV).

Content

Onmeda provides information on symptoms , diseases, and examination and treatment methods. Lexicons and guides on topics such as pregnancy, nutrition and sport are also available. Much of the information is disseminated in the form of online articles. There are also interactive applications such as self-tests and quizzes. A medication guide provides data and facts on numerous medications, active ingredients, groups of active ingredients and areas of application. In 69 forums, more than half of which are supervised by doctors and other experts, users can get free advice and exchange ideas. There is also a free Alexa Skill with an ovulation calculator to determine the fertile days. Since May 2012 there has also been a Spanish version of Onmeda. In April 2015, Onmeda also launched Onmeda.fr in France.

Through content syndication , articles, often written almost congruently, can appear in different media. So there are z. B. the article at Onmeda with almost the same content also at the observer .

editorial staff

The Onmeda editorial team (May 2019) consists of five medical journalists and is supported by 12 experts from various disciplines. These include specialists from various fields, a pharmacist, a nutritionist and sports scientist Ingo Froböse . Some of these experts also oversee the online forums and answer questions from readers there.
