Onofrio Carruba

Onofrio Carruba ( December 21, 1930 - September 22, 2016 ) was an Italian linguist and Hittite scientist .

Career and work

After working as an assistant at various universities between 1954 and 1964, Onofrio Carruba became Professor of Anatolian Studies in 1965 . Since 1976 he was a professor at the University of Pavia . In the academic year 2006/2007 he became professore emerito .

Onofrio Carruba studied Indo-European and Old Anatolian linguistics , philology and history . From 2000 to 2006 he was the coordinator of various inter-university research projects on Ancient Near Eastern Studies, in which the Universities of Florence and Trieste were involved in addition to Pavia . International cooperation took place with Gernot Wilhelm in Würzburg. Carruba also made contributions to the Boǧazköy texts .

Prices

From 1961 to 1963 he was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation with Johannes Friedrich in Berlin and Erich Neu in Bochum. In 1976 Onofrio Carruba was awarded the “Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei” prize for linguistics. In 2006 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor ( Medaglia d'oro ) from the University of Pavia.
