The Opalinea are a group of unicellular organisms from the stramenopile group .

features

The representatives are unicellular eukaryotes with many flagella . The flagella arise from a morphogenetic center in the front part, called falx, and form longitudinal rows. Between the rows of flagella lie longitudinal ribs of the pellicle , which are supported by microtubule ligaments. A cell contains two to many nuclei of the same type .

The Opalinea have a complex life cycle in which the sex processes are triggered by hormones of the host and which are related to the life cycle of the host. The species live as endobionts in amphibians and some fish.
