The Open Build Service (formerly OpenSUSE Build Service ) is an open and complete distribution development platform designed to encourage software developers to develop packages for various Linux distributions , such as SUSE Linux Enterprise Server , openSUSE , Red Hat Enterprise Linux , Mandriva , Ubuntu , Fedora , Debian and Arch Linux .
Typically, it simplifies the packaging process so that developers can easily build a package for different distributions.
The Build Service software is licensed under the GPL .
The Linux Foundation has announced that the project will be added to the Linux Developer Network (LDN) . It is also used in development in various companies, such as the MeeGo project and Tizen . It is also used by the VideoLAN project, the United States Postal Service , Collabora , cPanel , the Erlangen Regional Computing Center , Cray Inc. , Dell and Open-Xchange .
