Band history

The beginnings

Singer and guitarist Amandah Wilkinson, drummer Tim Commandeur, keyboardist Sarah Gardiner, bassist Ashley McConnell and violinist Stephanie Joske came together in 2005 for a Battle of the Bands competition at Elanora State High School, where they went to school. After winning this competition, they produced their first independent EP called On the Prowl and performed in smaller pubs and clubs . Their second EP Cement Cement achieved a first success through word of mouth, so that their first single Crash Tragic was played on the Australian youth radio station Triple J in continuous rotation. After a few months they got a record deal with Virgin / EMI Records in Australia and in England they signed with the indie label Brille Records.

The first single under a big label was Just A Song About Ping Pong , which was released on July 28, 2007 and reached number 12 in the Australian single charts. The accompanying music video was played by many music broadcasters and, thanks to its promotion on the home pages of MySpace and Youtube, was also heard outside of Australia. The band's breakthrough in the UK came when they performed at the Reading Festival and Leeds Festival in August 2007. In the UK indie single charts, the single made it to number 10. On June 21, 2008, the band performed at the Hurricane Festival , increasing their popularity in Germany.

Yes Yes Vindictive

After two further singles called Get What You Want and Leave It Alone , the first album Yes Yes Vindictive was released in record stores on November 10, 2007 in Australia and on March 17, 2008 in the United Kingdom . The album was recorded at The Grove Studios in New South Wales on Central Coast, Australia with English producer Simon Barnicott. It rose to number 28 in the Australian album charts.

The album was released in Germany on March 14, 2008.

Operator Please were as opening act of the Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs engaged in their Australian tours. In the spring and summer of 2008, there were dates in Asia , Australia and Europe where they performed for the second time in Germany. Among others at the Hurricane Festival and Southside Festival .

Sarah Gardiner left the band in April 2008. Since she had not taken part in the previous concerts for two months, the other members decided to take her out of the band.

The fourth single from the album Yes Yes Vindictive called Two For My Seconds was released on June 21, 2008, the music video was shot in Sydney , Australia in mid-April 2008 . In the Australian singles charts it rose to number 93 on July 7, 2008 through downloads alone.
