Optiliga

Optimists at the turning point

The Opti League is a series of training races with Optimist - sailboats . Participants are children who have little or no experience in regatta sailing . Because these children are often still unsure at the beginning of their regatta careers, assistance from the coach from the boat is permitted during the races (this is normally strictly forbidden in sailing regattas). The duration of the races and the course schedule are deliberately kept short and clear.

Typically, such a series is organized jointly by several sailing clubs in one area (e.g. Flensburger Förde , Schlei , Lake Constance or Chiemsee ) and held alternately at the participating clubs as part of several one-day regattas. For example, three short races are sailed per regatta day, after which a daily rating and an overall rating for the entire series can be created.

The focus of the Optiliga should be less on the performance concept, but rather on the solid acquisition of the basics of regatta sport (boat management, maneuvering techniques, regatta rules, tactics, etc.).

The idea of introducing an Optiliga in this form arose in 1990 at Chiemsee .
