Opuntia assumptionis is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet assumptionis means 'after Asuncion in Paraguay'.

Opuntia assumptionis grows shrubby to short tree-like with upright branches and reaches heights of up to 1 meter. The strong, obovate shoot sections are up to 10 centimeters long and 5.5 centimeters wide. Their glochids are barely visible. The one or two brown thorns are only present on a few areoles .
The lemon-yellow flowers reach a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters. The pear-shaped fruits reach a length of up to 3.5 centimeters and a diameter of 2.5 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Opuntia assumptionis is common in Paraguay in the Central Department near Asunción and in Argentina in the provinces of Corrientes and Entre Ríos at altitudes of 100 to 500 meters.
It was first described in 1899 by Karl Moritz Schumann .
Opuntia assumptionis is poorly known.
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
