Opuntia boldinghii is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Dutch botanist Isaäc Boldingh (1879–1938).
description
Opuntia boldinghii has a shrubby growth and forms groups of many shoots with heights of up to 2 meters. The glaucous cloudy green, obovate shoot sections are up to 20 centimeters long. The conical, reddish leaf rudiments on them are up to 3 millimeters long. The large protruding areoles are felted in brown and have brownish glochids . Short brown thorns are few or absent.
The pink flowers reach a length of up to 5 centimeters. The obovate fruits have no thorns and are up to 4 centimeters long.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Opuntia boldinghii is common in the northwest of Venezuela , Trinidad and Curaçao .
The first description was in 1919 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The future development of the populations is unknown.
