Opuntia guatemalensis is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet guatemalensis comes from Latin and means 'coming from Guatemala'.

Opuntia guatemalensis has low shrubbery and spreads. The shiny deep green, bare, oval to elongated shoot sections are 10 to 20 centimeters long. The leaf rudiments on it are small. The small brown areoles are darkly spotted. The one to three round, slightly spread and bent back thorns are whitish and have a darker tip.

The lemon yellow flowers reach a length of up to 2.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Opuntia guatemalensis is common in Guatemala .

The first description was in 1919 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
