Opuntia rastrera is a species of plant in the genus of Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet rastrera means' lat. rastrum hoe, karst; chop-like '.

description

Opuntia rastrera grows shrubby and creeps along the ground. The round to inverted egg-shaped shoot sections form long chains of up to 20 centimeters in diameter. Several whitish thorns that are darker at the base and up to 4 centimeters long arise from the areoles . The glochids are yellow.

The flowers are yellow, the fruits obovate and purple in color .

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia rastrera is common in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí . The first description was published in 1898 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . Little is known about the species.
