history

Haasow was probably created by German immigrants during the German colonization in the east. A Hasowe Schieckel is mentioned in 1283, but it is uncertain whether it refers to Haasow. In a loan letter for Sigismund von Zabeltitz in 1536 the village Haso is mentioned. Haasow is parish in Kahren to the south .

In the 16th century the 23 farmsteads were divided between three landlords. By 1860 the number of homesteads doubled and the population rose to 297.

At the end of the 19th century, Haasow's population was almost exclusively Sorbs . Paul Wirth examined your Lower Sorbian dialect while studying Slavic Studies together with his professor Max Vasmer . They presented the results in 1932.

After the Second World War , a Soviet honorary cemetery was set up in Haasow .

On September 19, 2004, Haasow merged with the communities of Bagenz, Drieschnitz-Kahsel, Frauendorf, Gablenz, Groß Döbbern, Groß Oßnig, Kathlow, Klein Döbbern, Komptendorf, Koppatz, Laubsdorf, Neuhausen, Roggosen and Sergen to form the community of Neuhausen / Spree .
