history

According to the sources, the church Magna Dobryn by Thietmar von Merseburg is mentioned for the first time in the Meißner diocese register 1346/1495 (for the Catholic archpriest chair Cottbus). This is followed by the earliest documented mention of Groß Döbbern in 1450, which, in addition to several Cottbus citizens, also lists von Loebens as a local resident. In 1468 the name Nickel von Loeben came to the fore for the first time in the historical development of the place. Until 1495, the von Loeben family owned not only the village of Klein Döbbern, which they had owned as one of the most important noble families in Lower Lusatia since 1457, but also most of the Groß Döbbern fief. Until 1530, the belligerent lords of Loeben often took part in raids on merchants who went to the Frankfurt fair, in feuds against the Elector of Brandenburg and in attacks on church dignitaries. At that time the von Loeben still lived according to the old concept of the law of fists and feuds, which formally did not represent an injustice.

Gross Döbbern suffered badly from enemy soldiers and imperial troops. The place was over-indebted and had to be bought back from the creditors in 1679 together with Buckwitz (Klein Buckow) for 10,375 Thaler. In the end, Hans Christoph von Loeben, the royal Saxon governor of Neuzauche, sold both villages, apart from three farmsteads, to August Sylvius Reichsgraf von Pückler in 1698. In the lucrative possession of Branitz since 1696 , the Gutsdorf Groß Döbbern was of permanent economic interest for him and his heir Erdmann von Pückler. In 1995 it was possible to prove that the famous garden artist Hermann von Pückler-Muskau had large trees delivered from Groß Döbbern for the Branitz Park.

The parish was parish off to Klein Döbbern in 1740 and in 1812 it was run as " ecclesia vagans ".

Groß Döbbern belonged to the Kingdom of Saxony until 1815 and then became part of the Cottbus district of the Frankfurt administrative district of the Prussian province of Brandenburg . In 1939 there were 479 residents here.

Until the 20th century, a large part of the population spoke Sorbian . Arnošt Muka determined for his statistics of the Lusatian Sorbs 1884/85 a total population of 526, of which 518 Sorbs (98%) and eight Germans.

During the GDR era, the anti-aircraft missile department 311 of the anti-aircraft missile regiment 31 Straßgräbchen was stationed in Groß Döbbern .

The once independent municipality merged with 17 other municipalities to form the Neuhausen / Spree district in 1992 . On September 19, 2004, Groß Döbbern formed the new community Neuhausen / Spree together with 14 other communities from the dissolved Neuhausen / Spree office.

Due to its history, the district has officially been named "Pücklerdorf Groß Döbbern" since 2018.
