The snack stand is around 50 meters south of the intersection of Schönhauser- , Kastanien- and Pappelallee as well as Danziger and Eberswalder Straße. It is located under the Hochbahn bridge on the U2 line in Schönhauser Allee, immediately south of the Eberswalder Straße underground station . In the course of renovation work on the U2 line, the kiosk was demolished in summer 2010. Since autumn 2010, a new building in the “1960s style” has been built on the old site, which was opened on April 28, 2011. For the time of the underground renovation and reconstruction, the operation was continued in a food truck.

Because of its central location in Prenzlauer Berg and its popularity, Konnopke's Imbiß is popular not only with locals, but also with tourists. A snack stand of the same name was located in Mahlerstrasse Weissensee ; this was run by Günter Konnopke, a son of Max Konnopke. In 2000 it was sold. A new Konnopke branch opened on August 1, 2007 in the Heinersdorf district . ( Location )

history

On October 4, 1930, Max Konnopke (1901–1986) and his wife Charlotte Konnopke (1910–2009) founded the company as a vendor's tray on the corner of Schönhauser and Danziger Strasse, where the snack stand still exists today. Initially, sausages were only allowed to be sold at night, but from 1939 onwards, due to the shortage of meat, not at all. Potato pancakes were temporarily sold until Max Konnopke was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1941. After the Second World War , they bought a sausage cart in 1947. It was not until 1960 that a snack bar was built at the current location. Since then, the best-known Konnopke product, the currywurst with ketchup based on a family recipe, has been sold. The reason for this in-house development was that initially no ketchup was available in East Berlin after the Wall was built. Due to its size (fewer than ten employees), the company was not affected by the wave of nationalization of family businesses in 1972. In 1976, daughter Waltraud Ziervogel (* 1936) took over the business. In 1983 she had the former wooden booth replaced by a metal snack kiosk. Around 20 employees work in the family business today (as of 2011). Waltraud Ziervogel announced in 2010 that he would manage the business until 2015 and then hand it over to her son Mario Ziervogel (* 1964), who, however , opened his own snack bar on Senefelderplatz in 2012 due to disagreement about the transfer of the business and increasing family problems . Despite the rush in the evening hours, the family-run business did not extend the opening times because otherwise the quality could not be guaranteed.
