Opuntia tenuiflora is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet tenuiflora means '(lat. Tenuiflorus) with delicate flowers'.

description

Opuntia tenuiflora grows shrubby with numerous prostrate to upright branches. The deep green, often frosted, rather thick, wedge-shaped to elliptical, sometimes rather narrow shoot sections are 15 to 40 centimeters long. Their areoles are inconspicuous. The three to six curved, light yellow thorns become darker with age and are 2 to 5 centimeters long.

The bell-shaped, deep salmon-colored flowers reach a diameter of up to 3 centimeters. The thickened, club-shaped, stem-like fruits are more or less purple in color. They are up to 7 inches long.

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia tenuiflora is common in the United States in the state of Florida .

The first description by John Kunkel Small was published in 1933.
