Opuntia turbinata is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet turbinata means '(lat. Turbinatus) gyrated, turned'.

description

Opuntia turbinata grows shrubby with slightly upright twigs, is richly branched and reaches heights of up to 1.5 meters. The glaucous- light green, thick, oval to obovate to circular shoot sections are up to 15 centimeters long. Their areoles are prominent. The one to five light yellow thorns turn brownish with age and are 2 to 3 centimeters long.

The light yellow flowers reach a diameter of up to 5.5 centimeters. The spherical to top-shaped purple fruits are up to 4 inches long.

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia turbinata is common in the United States in the states of Georgia and Florida .
