Mount Orab is a village in Brown County , Ohio , United States .

location

It is about 12 miles north of Georgetown , the county seat of administration. It is the largest settlement in the Green Township by population . At the 2000 census, the population was 2307.

The name is derived from [Mount] Horeb , the mountain on which Moses received the Ten Commandments according to the Bible .

history

Daniel Keethler laid the foundation stone for the village on September 3, 1850. The small village initially grew very slowly. That only changed when the Cincinnati & Eastern Railroad reached the village on April 19, 1877 .

In 1970 Pastor Caroll Jay is said to have hypnotized his wife Dolores into speaking xenoglossal German. This became known as the Dolores Jay case .
