The orange-throated jumping bass ( Etheostoma spectabile ) is one of the many rapid-arrow jumpers (hence the American name darter ) that are widespread in the USA , all of which belong to the family of perch (Percidae) from the order of the perch-like (Perciformes).
distribution
It inhabits smaller tributaries and streams of the Mississippi and Missouri river systems in the central United States .
food
Orange-throated jumpfish feed on insects and planktonic crustaceans .
Reproduction
During the spawning season, the males develop an orange color on their throats and breasts. The throat of females and non-spawning males is more whitish. The males choose the spawning site, and the females dig shallow nests in which they lay several hundred eggs, which are then fertilized and guarded by the males.
